MY STORY

Hi there, I’m Lori Jackson Hill.

Growing up in the 80s, I loved sugary cereal. Remember those cheery, colorful boxes with cartoon characters and splashy graphics? Every morning during breakfast, I’d study those boxes, not realizing there was a profession dedicated to creating them.

Years later, I learned that the people who made those cereal boxes were called graphic designers. That career seemed like the perfect way to combine my love of art, graphic novels, and technology. In 2003, I started learning software, design principles, photography, marker illustration, and web design in the Advertising & Graphic Design program at Guilford Technical Community College. Graduating with an Associate of Applied Science degree in 2005, I began working in the educational supplement publishing industry, creating workbooks and other graphics for Carson-Dellosa Publishing Company.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where I earned academic and artistic scholarships for each year I was enrolled. SCAD’s outstanding eLearning program allowed me to attend my dream school while maintaining full-time employment. In the Fall of 2021, I embarked upon my Masters of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s Bryan School of Business and Economics.

After 8 years working in print publication design, I moved into the realm of digital design and marketing. This next chapter of my career began at a small start-up called DealerActive (eventually DA Solutions). Initially I worked on a car-sales magazine and later provided web design, UI and UX design, email marketing campaigns, website support, social media marketing graphics, website graphics, and more for the automotive industry. As a small-business employee, you wear a lot of hats and develop skills you didn’t know you had, like hand-coding HTML and learning digital marketing.

As a Digital Designer in the Marketing Department of Flow Automotive Companies, I created and designed digital marketing pieces and responsive HTML email campaigns for automotive brands like Nissan, Honda, Porsche, Toyota, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, MINI, and others. We had multi-channel marketing campaigns for company-wide initiatives like March Mania and 12 Days of Giveaways that I absolutely loved every minute of being a part of, whether it was designing individual pieces for social media marketing or a comprehensive microsite website design, or just designing a simple poster.

After a little over a decade and a half as a graphic designer, I wanted to explore the field of digital marketing. In 2020, I started working as a Digital Marketing Specialist at HealthTeam Advantage, a Medicare Advantage health insurance company, where I edited videos, channel art, and other collateral for their YouTube channel, expanded their organic Facebook presence, developed landing pages in HubSpot, designed display ads, provided data analysis and reporting for all digital channels, and worked with a third-party digital marketing vendor in creating their exciting new website, paid social and Google advertising initiatives, and more.

In April 2021, I wanted to move into agency life, so I moved to Fungi Marketing, where I am currently expanding my digital marketing horizons daily. I’m performing paid social advertising initiatives on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube; managing PPC / paid search campaigns for lawyers, small businesses, eCommerce B2B and B2C stores, and others; writing copy for email marketing campaigns and other assets for a variety of industries; writing copy for search engine optimization (SEO); and assisting in creative direction and account management for website design projects in Shopify, WordPress, and more.
